Kourous Rezaei, MD, has a new website called ChannelR. In this news feature, Retina Today interviews Dr. Rezaei to introduce ChannelR to our readers.

Retina Today: What is ChannelR?

Dr. Rezaei: ChannelR is a new video discussion website for retina specialists around the world. Registration for this website is free. The first phase of ChannelR recently launched and is available on www.ChannelR.net. At this stage, retina specialists will have access to the video discussion courses Retinaws and Formula Retina.

RT: Please tell our readers more about Retinaws and how it is presented in ChannelR.

Dr. Rezaei: Retinaws is a video discussion course that takes place at major meetings around the world. Leading retina surgeons present surgical videos of complex vitreoretinal surgery, unique surgical techniques, and rare surgical cases. Each video presentation is followed by a panel discussion.

In ChannelR, all the video discussions are arranged into video chapters in the form of an online video atlas. Each chapter contains videos pertaining to that particular topic. For example, in the proliferative vitreoretinopathy surgery chapter, one can find video discussions on posterior retinotomy or surgical management of retinal cysts in PVR. All the videos on Channel R are searchable with keywords. New video discussions will be added on a frequent basis.

RT: Formula Retina is a new course series that is now available both on Eyetube and ChannelR. How is Formula Retina different from Retinaws?

Dr. Rezaei: Formula Retina is a panel discussion course in which leading retina specialists share with the audience in a step-by-step fashion how they manage various medial and surgical conditions in their daily practice. It is a discussion about the principles of management. Another difference is that Retinaws involves only surgical retina, but Formula Retina encompasses both medial and surgical retina.

In the medial retina section, experienced retina specialists discuss their treatment paradigms for various medial retina conditions. Each discussion is followed by case presentation and panel discussion.

For example, in one of the wet age-related macular degenerations sections, Robert L. Avery, MD; Jay S. Duker, MD; and SriniVas R. Sadda, MD, discuss management strategies for wet age-related macular degeneration. This is followed by case presentations and further debate about management.

In the surgical section of Formula Retina, expert surgeons from around the globe discuss the principles of vitreoretinal surgery by demonstrating their surgical techniques in a step-by-step fastion through short video clips, which are followed by a panel discussion. For instance, Marcos Ávila, MD; Pravin U. Dugel, MD; and Carl D. Regillo, MD, present video clips showing their step-by-step management of diabetic vitrectomy and tissue dissection, followed by panel discussion.

RT: I would like to thank you for introducing ChannelR. Any additional comments you may have for our readers?

Dr. Rezaei: I would like to thank all the retina specialists from around the world who agreed to participate in Retinaws and Formula Retina, and more importantly, shared with the retina community their knowledge and expertise. A special thanks goes to my friend Kirk H. Packo, MD, for his continued support and encouragement.
