The 8th Annual Alcon Retina Film Festival took placing during AAO 2022 in Chicago. This time, I had the honor of filling in for the traditional Master of Ceremonies, Donald J. D’Amico, MD. As such, I was tasked with moderating a panel that evaluated, commented on, and contextualized each surgical video submission. That panel was comprised of María H. Berrocal, MD; Timothy G. Murray, MD, MBA; and Rishi Singh, MD.
Nearly two dozen submissions were showcased at this year’s Alcon Retina Film Festival. In this compendium, a handful of presentations representing the spectrum of entries have been highlighted.
The winner of this year’s Alcon Retina Film Festival is Aristomenis Thanos, MD; you can see his case on page 2 of this booklet. This year—and in all future years—Film Festival winners will receive the Kirk H. Packo Award, a trophy named in honor of Kirk H. Packo, MD, whose vision and drive made the Alcon Retina Film Festival possible. It is a small way to honor a larger-than-life retina surgeon.
